Karnataka is a state in southwestern India, famous for the ancient Vijayanagara Empire ruins in Hampi, the wildlife in Bandipur and Nagarhole national parks, and the coffee-growing hills of Chikmagalur. The state has a tropical climate with a dry winter from October to February when temperatures hover around 25°C (77°F), perfect for exploring Hampi's 16th-century royal enclosures and stone chariots, or going on a safari to spot tigers and elephants. During the monsoon from June to September, the western Ghats turn lush, and you can hike to Jog Falls-the highest plunge waterfall in India-or take a plantation walk in Coorg's spice estates.
